You mention digital X-rays. What makes digital different?

Digital X-rays use much less radiation than the old-fashioned X-rays of yesterday. Think of it as having a digital photograph taken of your teeth.

The digital image can be adjusted, rotated, enlarged, duplicated, and stored on a hard drive just like a digital photograph
. The best part is that you get to see your own X-ray images displayed on a monitor right in front of you should the doctor need to discuss your X-ray results .
How often should I have dental checkups?
You should have a checkup and cleaning twice a year to help maintain your dental health.

It is important to have regular checkups not only to check for tooth decay, but also to screen for oral cancer, gum disease, and any other conditions that might have serious consequences if not caught early.

And don't forget that you also get a good thorough cleaning to remove calculus (tartar) and plaque. This is followed up with a nice polishing to help you look your best!

What is an intra-oral camera?

An intra-oral (or intraoral) camera is just like a small digital video camera that the doctor uses to take a real-time full-color video of your mouth.

A picture is worth a thousand words and you actually get to see what the doctor is explaining to you on a monitor right in front of your chair! The intra-oral camera has been a valuable tool for patient education and for documenting patients' dental care.

Are battery-powered toothbrushes better than regular toothbrushes?
Battery-powered toothbrushes such as the Sonicare© are specially designed to reduce plaque and minimize calculus buildup which helps to prevent gum disease. Battery-powered brushes make it easy to get into hard-to-reach places--even around orthodontic work--with ease. Regular toothbrushes work great but may not get under the gumline or between the teeth as easily.
Don't have a Sonicare© toothbrush? Check out our special offer on our APPOINTMENTS page.

How often do I need to brush and floss?

Brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss at least once per day. This helps control plaque and bacteria that damage teeth and cause dental disease. If plaque turns to calculus (tartar), it can damage the gums and bone, possibly causing gum disease.

Brushing removes food, plaque, and bacteria from most of the tooth and gum surfaces. Flossing finishes the work off nicely by cleaning between the teeth and below the gumline.
